Free tool for job seekers

Fake job posting checker
Is this job posting real?

Paste a job link, or the posting’s text, to see if it’s on an official source, how old it is and whether it shows the usual signs of a scam. Free, with no account.

From the company’s careers page or its job board. Istos doesn’t open LinkedIn links: paste the text instead. We don’t keep what you check.

Not sure what it catches?

The checks

The same plain-code checks Istos runs on every role it finds.

  • Official source

Is the link on the company’s own site, a job board it runs, or a government job bank?

  • Posted in the last 14 days

When it was posted, and whether applications have closed.

  • Red flags

Odd apply links, free mailboxes and chat apps, requests for money, bank details or ID, and pay far above the norm.

  • Visa sponsorship

Whether the posting says it can sponsor a work visa.

Istos runs these checks on every role it finds

The Jobs agent checks each role it finds the same way. A role with a red flag is set aside with the reason, and Istos never drafts or sends anything to it.

What each check looks at

Official source
Whether the link is on a job board companies run themselves (Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workday and others), a government job bank, or a company site that publishes the job details search engines read. Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby links are checked against the board’s own live list.
Posted in the last 14 days
The date from the board or the page, or from the text (“Posted 3 days ago”). Older than 14 days, or past its closing date, and it’s worth asking if the role is still open.
Red flags
An apply link through a form builder, a link shortener or an unrelated site. A free mailbox or a chat app. A request for money, bank details or ID before an interview. Pay far above the norm for the title.
Visa sponsorship
What the posting says, if anything. It doesn’t change the reading, but it saves you an application if you need a visa and the answer is no.

Each check is plain code, not a model, so it gives the same answer every time and says why. The full guide, with how to check each sign by hand: How to spot a fake job posting.

Questions people ask

How can I tell if a job posting is real?
Check three things. Is the role on the company’s own careers page, or a job board the company runs, such as Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby or Workday, or a government job bank? When was it posted? And does it ask for anything a real employer wouldn’t before an interview? Paste the link here and the checker looks at all three.
What are the red flags of a fake job posting?
An apply link that goes to a form builder, a link shortener or a site unrelated to the company. Contact through a free mailbox such as gmail.com, or a request to talk on Telegram or WhatsApp. Any request for money, bank details or ID before an interview. And pay far above the norm for the title. Any one of these is a reason to check before you apply.
Why won’t it open LinkedIn links?
Istos never reads LinkedIn pages, by design, here or in the product. Copy the job’s text on LinkedIn and paste it in, and the checker reads the text. It also won’t treat a reposting site such as Indeed as the official source: use the link from the company’s own careers page instead.
Does a clean result mean the job is safe?
No. It means none of the warning signs turned up. A link on a job board shows where a role is posted, not who posted it, and anyone can copy a real posting. Apply through the company’s own site, and never pay or share bank details or ID before an interview.
Why does the posting date matter?
Most roles get their shortlist in the first two weeks, so Istos counts a role as fresh for 14 days. A posting left up for months may be filled already, or left up to collect CVs. If the posting gives no date, the checker says so rather than guess.
Is it free, and do you keep what I paste?
It’s free and needs no account. Istos reads only the page you give it, after checking that site’s robots.txt, or for Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby the board’s public list of jobs. The link and text are used for the check and then dropped. The only thing counted is how many checks come from one connection, under a scrambled key.
