- How do I find a company’s careers page?
- Start from its own website. The link is usually called Careers or Jobs, in the menu or the footer. Many companies run that page on a job board such as Greenhouse, Lever or Ashby, and the board is where the open roles really live. Type the company’s name or website here and the finder looks for that board for you.
- How can I tell if a company uses Greenhouse, Lever or Ashby?
- Look at the address of its job links. A role on greenhouse.io, jobs.lever.co or jobs.ashbyhq.com is on that board, and the company’s name on the board comes straight after the domain. The finder asks all three boards’ public lists of jobs, so it can say which one a company uses and how many roles are open there today.
- Why apply on the company’s own board rather than a job site?
- It’s the one listing that’s sure to be current. Job sites copy roles and often keep them up after they close, and fake postings live on reposting sites. On the company’s own board, your application goes straight into its hiring system.
- Why can’t it find a company I know is hiring?
- Many companies use other systems, such as Workday or SmartRecruiters, or build their own, and some use a board name that isn’t their company name. Type the company’s website and the finder reads its careers page for the link, where its robots.txt allows. If that page loads its jobs with scripts, open it yourself.
- How current is the number of open roles?
- It’s read from the board’s public list of jobs when you search, so it’s what the board lists at that moment. If the board doesn’t answer in time, the finder says so and shows no number rather than an old one.
- Is it free, and do you keep what I search for?
- It’s free and needs no account. The name or website you type is used for the search and then dropped. Istos reads only the boards’ public lists and, if you give a website, up to four of its pages, after checking its robots.txt. The only thing counted is how many searches come from one connection, under a scrambled key.
