How to read a result

On this list
The employer is on that country’s list, under the name the government uses. It’s a strong sign it can sponsor there, not a promise that it will for your role.
Close matches
More than one employer shares the name, or your name is the start of a longer one. The town and visa route help you find the right one.
Not on this list
No employer by that name is on it. Try the legal name, then read the posting: many say outright whether they sponsor.
What the lists don’t say
They name employers, not roles. A company can be licensed in the UK and still hire only people who already have the right to work.

Questions people ask

How do I know if a company sponsors visas?
Look in two places. First the job posting: lines like “must already have the right to work” mean no, even when the word visa never appears. Then the government lists of employers that are licensed to sponsor or have sponsored before. This checker searches the lists for the UK, the US, Canada and Ireland at once. If both leave you unsure, ask the recruiter in one line before you apply.
Does being on the UK sponsor register mean they will sponsor me?
No. It means the Home Office has licensed the employer to sponsor workers, so it can. Whether it will for a given role depends on the job, the salary and the employer’s own plans, and a posting that says it can’t sponsor still means no. Treat a match as a good reason to ask, not a promise.
Why can’t I find a company I know sponsors visas?
The lists use legal names, which often differ from the brand: Monzo is on the UK register as Monzo Bank Ltd, and many firms sponsor through a local company with its own name. Try the distinctive part of the name, or the legal name from the footer of the company’s website. The US list also stops at fiscal year 2023, so a newer sponsor may not be on it.
How up to date are these lists?
Istos checks the governments’ sites for a new version every morning. The UK publishes its register almost every working day, Canada adds a quarter at a time and Ireland updates its permits list during the year. USCIS has published no H-1B employer file after fiscal year 2023. Each card shows the date its copy was loaded.
What is a close match?
When the name you typed fits more than one employer on a list, or is the start of a longer name, the checker shows those employers as close matches instead of picking one for you. The town and the visa route next to each help you find the right one.
Is the checker free, and do you keep what I search for?
It’s free and needs no account. The name you type is used for the lookup and then dropped. The only thing counted is how many lookups come from one connection, under a scrambled key, so nobody can flood the tool.
